The Staff at Southern Vets

Dr Marcus Hayes

Dr Marcus Hayes is the practice principal. He graduated from Melbourne University in 1993 with honours. Marcus originally worked at Leongatha then Whittlesea in mixed practice until 1998. From then until 2006 Marcus worked in private small animal parctices and developed a passion for overall pet wellness, and client communication when it came to illness and injury.

Marcus has developed a highly skilled team of dedicated veterinarians who are of the same philosophy that a litte less emphasis on the "marketing" aspects of veterinary science, and a little more emphasis on "preventative" health is advantagous for our pets long term health.

Having most of our clients swap unneccessary "preventative" medicines that are not needed for "pet inurance" instead has allowed not only healthier pets, but allows our team far more scope to do whatever is needed when our pets become ill or injured.

Modern Veterinary Medicine continues to evolve in an exciting way. The number of illnesses and injuries we can treat and cure compared to 10 years ago is staggering, and Southervets strives to be at the forefront of these advances yet at the same time encourage a more moderate approach with respect to routine health and the advertising that goes with it in order to "maximise" our pets health.

In the first few years of establishing Southern Animal Health and Dingley Village Veterinary Centre Marcus has assembled a team of like minded, skilled and compassionate veterinarians and nurses who work together to offer clients outstanding veterinary services and communication.

Meet the rest of the team that Marcus has assembled and feel free to call and discuss any area of pet health with Marcus, or any of the veterinary or nursing staff.

Dr. Karin Davids

Dr. Karin Davids graduated from Sydney University in 1993 with honours. Karin developed an interest in small animal surgery and obtained her membership in Small Animal Surgery in 2002.

With her expertise in small animal surgery, Karin brings to Southernvets extensive knowledge and skill.

What veterinarians are able to achieve these days is a far cry from 10 and 20 years ago, and wth  Karin's ability and knowledge constantly updated with seminars and conferences, Southernvets are able to offer our clients the highest standards available in this ever advancing frontier of small animal care.

Dr Tim Bowden

Dr Tim Bowden, a Melbourne University graduate from 2005, joined our team in early 2009 and brings extensive knowledge in both small animal surgery and medicine.

Like Karin, Tim is developing his interest in small animal surgery and also enjoys the medical considerations that accompany advanced surgical techniques.

With an interest in rabbits Tim has varied expertise and his cheerful and easy going manner are an asset to both Southenrvets and our clients.

Away from work Tim enjoys his pet dogs Wonka and Oscar and is a keen trail bike competitor.

Dr Annie Round

.

Dr Annie Round graduated from Brisbane in 2004 and also brings to the clinic expertise in both medicine and surgery.

With an interest in small animal medicine, Annie's skills compliment the interests and skills of the other clinicians.

Annie is renowned for her love of small dogs, being the proud mother of no less than 4 Chihuahua's! Her gentle manner and understanding of small animals makes Annie a favourite of not only our clients, but also their pets! It's common to see pets running up to Annie that are normally a little more "reserved" with other veterinarians!

Dr. Emma Hughes

Dr Emma Hughes graduated from Sydney University in 2007. Working at the RSPCA for 2 years gave Emma a great grounding in all aspects of small animal medicine and surgery.

In addition to Emma's surgical and medical skills, Emma brings to the practice an interest in small animal behaviour. Hence for all those difficult "adolescent pet problems" feel free to call and dicuss the situation with Emma.

Dedicated to animal wellfare and rehoming "lost causes" Emma has a natural compassion toward all animals that has no limitations.

Southern Anmal Health was richly rewarded when Dr Emma Hughes joined our team in 2009.

Veterinary Nurses

Lisa Christie

Lisa was one of the original nurses at Dingley when Marcus took the practice over. Many original Dingley clients are happy that she stayed, continuing the outstanding service she provides all clients, with many new clients quickly understanding why she leads the nursing team. No matter what the problem, how big or small, all Dingley clients know that in Lisa and all the nursing staff, their requests and enquiries will be serviced promptly and efficiently with a friendliness that comes from staff that love what they do. Lisa has 3 dogs; Cosmo, Kasey and little Artie, her latest addition, a pet store pup that couldn't find a home. No cat or dog, pup or kitten, passes Dingley nursing staff without making sure they are looked after and found great homes. Artie was such a character, he never had a chance of getting past Lisa.

Lisa has an interest in pet nutrition, pet insurance and is currently studying the certificate 4 vet nursing at Box Hill. No matter what the query, feel free to ask Lisa for her help at any time.

Chantelle Garnier

Chantelle joined our team in 2009 and and both herself and her dogs contribute greatly to the service we give our clients. (Her dogs Cleopatra and Bouza are responsible for saving many lives with their generous blood donations! Yes, there are many canines running around today thanks to the contribution of these two gentle giants).

Chantelle's gentle, friendly and calm nature are an asset to our team, and clients are always delighted to be greeted by her friendly disposition and willingness to help above and beyond normal standards.

Melissa Crooke

Melissa joined our team recently with an eagerness to learn as much as she can, this being her first nursing position.

Also studying Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing, her passion for pets is obvious from the professional and gentle way she handles all patients that come through our doors.

Like Dr. Round, there seems to be an affinity between our patients and Melissa. Melissa's obvious enthusiasm for the job has quickly made her a favourite amongst the staff, clients and  most importantly - PETS!
