Why Choose Southern Vets?

Southern Vets is a group of only two veterinary clinics, privately owned by two experienced vetrinarians, Dr. Marcus Hayes, and Dr Karin Davids. Between them they have over 30 years of experience. They own and run these two clinics according to their own standards and beliefs. The associate veterinarians they employ are all experienced (we do not employ new graduates) and finding a clinic they all enjoy working in, we have a very low staff turnover rate compared to many clinics. This gives confidence that when you visit our clinic you will have consistency for the life of your pet.

Our vets have different ares of interest so we are able to work together to give the best care possible for your pet.

All the staff in our practices are of similar belief that "routine medicine" has become a little excessive in recent times. We are dedicated in explaining to our clients a better way in pet health. Our area of emphasis is in reducing the number of vaccinations and preventative medicines our pets recieve, and to encourage pet owners to use more home cooking and less commercial foods.

Our clinics policy is to explain to our clients the pro's and con's of all aspects of pet health so that you can make your own informed decision an what level of care you want your pets to recieve.

Southern vets offers a 24 hr advisory service. When many vet clinics are shut for the day, clients are left to Emergency Centres. Our clients are welcome to ring us first for advice, 24 hours a day.

Southern Vets offer house calls and consultations all day. We will always work with the client to try to suit their individual needs. We are also open on Sundays for no extra charge than our normal weekly rates.

We employ a low drug philosophy. We don't believe that more drugs means greater health. Refer to our home page and our link of "risk versus reward".

With staff that enjoy the freedom to work the way they want, clients will not find a more dedicated, caring or professional service. We love the work that we do and the satisfaction that comes with educating our clients in what is “Best Pet Health”, encouraging clients to use a more moderate approach with regard to the use of vaccinations and preventative medicines. We gain great satisfaction in offering clients all options with regard to injury and illness, not just the most expensive options. We all enjoy being able to bring these services to our clients in a very affordable way.
